Well, it's been a while since my last blog post. Unforeseen circumstances in my life have prevented me from doing my job. Yet here I am, back in action and ready to report from the Karaokesphere.
I was in Las Vegas recently to visit my family and check out the Karaoke scene, which is enormous. There are plenty of venues to check out every night, but I can guarantee that on Wednesday one of the best places to sing is at the TGI Friday's at Aliante Station Hotel and Casino. Hosted by Jimmy Z, the man has got his sh*t together, with an awesome play list and great sound system-not to mention the cool faux guitar, waiting patiently to be caressed by some axe wielder worthy of strumming it-that will turn even the most timid wallflower into a full-blown stage queen!
When you take an already convivial atmosphere and add to it Cinqo de Mayo, well, it made for some really interesting singing. What I enjoyed the most were the songs by Selena, made fresh by two very sexy Latinas. Others sang tribute to the glorious date, when the Mexicans beat down the French at the Battle of Puebla. Most people sang their own tribute songs and in a fashion indicative of said memorable occasion. Admittedly, my knowledge of R&B and Rap music is limited, however, I can tell you that every singer put on a great performance. Please don't beat me down--I promise to learn more R&B and Rap!
Jimmy Z handled the crowd well, and everyone came away feeling like they had conquered an invading force, except they had conquered a song turning it into their own. Cheers to you, Cinqo de Mayan's, it was a fun time celebrating with you all!
